A Victorian 14ct gold mourning brooch set with a row of seed pearls and with tassle detail. A large central oval shaped concave panel, which tests as garnet, surrounded by a decorative gold frame with delicate engraved detail and finished with a row of seed pearls (one missing). Surmounts a V shaped arrangement of articulated tassels with coned pendants. Reverse has a removable white metal mount (glass missing) for holding a love ones lock of hair in place behind the garnet panel. Not hallmarked but tests as 14ct gold. Approx. 8.5cm long (to the bottom of the longest tassel) x 5.5cm wide.
One small seed pearl is missing on the far right edge of the brooch. One tassle is broken from the 4th joint and one is missing (from the edge on the left hand side) only evident from the empty fixing hoop on the reverse. Pin hinge and fastening hook are in good order. No splits, dents or cracks to the metal work or stone. Some surface scratching to the stone panel.
